Rick Scott Asks HHS For Federal Zika Aid

As the number of Zika cases climbs in Florida, Gov. Rick Scott asked U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell for federal aid and also called for members of Congress to hold a hearing in Miami. LeadingAge Florida Medicaid Prospective Payment Task Force
By Susan C. Langston

The LeadingAge Florida Advocacy Team met with Navigant this week in preliminary discussions regarding the upcoming study of the prospective payment system.

During the Legislative Session, LeadingAge Florida supported and advocated for Governor Scott’s and the Florida Legislature’s effort to fund the development of a plan for converting from a cost-based system of Medicaid nursing home payments to a prospective payment system. With the help of LeadingAge Florida’s advocacy team, the funding for the study was included in the General Appropriations Act passed by the Legislature and signed into law.

LeadingAge Florida is being afforded the opportunity to ensure high-quality is put at the forefront of any payment system. With that in mind, LeadingAge Florida has established a Medicaid Prospective Payment Task Force with the following charge:

The LeadingAge Florida Medicaid Prospective Payment Task Force will guide the
work of the Association related to the development of a new Medicaid prospective
payment plan to ensure that the payment plan priorities established by the
Association are accurately conveyed to AHCA and the study contractor and
reflected in the final study recommendations.

We are seeking members who are interested in participating on the LeadingAge Florida Medicaid Prospective Payment Task Force. If you or a qualified representative of your organization is interested in shaping this important public policy and being part of the LeadingAge Florida Medicaid Prospective Payment Task Force, please contact Susan Langston at slangston@leadingageflorida.org or (850) 671-3700 by May 27, 2016.
FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT
Your Board of Trustees met at the Inn on the Pond in Clearwater this week for its regularly scheduled quarterly meeting, and to conduct a planning session to provide the association with clarity and direction for the coming years. Please be on the lookout for future messages detailing those goals and our approaches to achieving them. Our sincere thanks to Rob Goldstein and his team at the Inn on the Pond for hosting us.
