FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT
During our strategic planning session in May, your Board of Trustees asked the LeadingAge Staff to pursue a number of new initiatives, two of which were to seek meaningful collaboration opportunities with our partner associations, and to explore ways to understand the return our members are realizing on their investments in various technologies.

This week, we made early progress on both. LeadingAge Florida hosted a roundtable with several senior services organizations and AHCA on Thursday to discuss current funding opportunities for the implementation of Health Information Exchange technology, as well as ways to better understand current HIE adoption rates and barriers to adoption.

LeadingAge Florida has been a leader in these conversations in the past, and we are proud to take the lead in re-energizing this effort. We will keep you posted as we identify funding and models for ways in which HIE can deliver both healthcare and business value.

Our thanks to AHCA for their help with this project and for hosting our first meeting.

FACES OF AGING
Ukulele & Cycling Interests Defy 80-Something Age Norms
Yakov Ever is proving people can and do learn at any age. In his mid-80s, this Abbey Delray South resident always wanted to learn a musical instrument. Of all things, he picked up the ukulele. Over the past year, his passion led him to create a ukulele club. The group of a dozen residents practice weekly and hold concerts. Beyond music, Yakov likes to stay in shape. If he’s not biking, he’s doing yoga, swimming, or involved in fitness classes.

You Can’t Have “Housing Plus Services” Without Housing
By Alisha Sanders

A few months ago, The Wall Street Journal ran a story about how many older Americans are increasingly getting pinched by rising rents. Seniors living on fixed incomes can be hit hard by rent increases, Journal reporters argued, particularly in high-cost areas like California. Then, they profiled individuals experiencing big jumps in their rent.
