Learning effective communication, behavioral management, and activity strategies is a program of the Alzheimer’s Association designed to provide practical information and resources to help dementia caregivers learn to decode verbal and decipher behavioral messages and determine how best to respond. The program offers a four-step process to follow and provides details that can be applied to any behavior and other tools for the caregiver to feel comfortable caring for people with dementia.

Learning Objectives:
  • Understand how our brains interpret stimuli and the effects of Alzheimer’s and the related dementia on our brains
  • Explain the process for assessing challenging behaviors
  • Explain how communication changes throughout the course of the disease
  • Learn to respond using a variety of tools and techniques, including using multi-sensory cues and Validation therapy
